Wigmore Acres
Northeast corner of Westfield and Bridgeboro Roads
Wigmore Acres’ previous life as a nursery makes it an interesting open space with lots of diversity. Clues to its history are abundant: rows of plantings, now overgrown, can be detected through the woods, and there are cleared areas on the corner of Westfield and Bridgeboro Roads and at the site of the former house and nursery sale area. A small trail leads from the house site to and along the stream, a tributary to Swede Run, which transects the 12.5-acre parcel.
The site is more than half wooded, and salamanders and evidence of other wildlife have been noted on recent visits. NAC work parties have focused on trying to control some of the invasive plants to give desirable native growth a chance. Purchased in 2001 for $450,000, the acquisition was funded by Moorestown Township, Burlington County, and New Jersey Green Acres. |
